Every state and county is different so be sure to check with your local health department. County Health Departments are who regulate Microblading in each county as Microblading is a form of permanent makeup/tattooing. Most states will require you to at least have your Bloodborne Pathogen Certificate but since the requirements can vary, it’s important for you to check what’s required for your specific area. It’s also important for you to have liability insurance and a business license but we will guide you through this process during class.

For most states, California included, you do not need any formal type of license such as an esthetician or cosmetology license in order to perform microblading.

You will take a ‘Blood Borne Pathogen’ online course prior to applying for your body art permit (which you do not need prior to class). You will learn all about proper sanitation, sterilization, etc. In class, we will cover exactly what your work space needs to look like, have, how to properly dispose of your tools, etc.

You will receive two certificates – one after your first two days of Microblading training and a ‘certificate of completion’ after you’ve completed your live model. The second certificate will state that you also completed 100+ hours of training. This will be the certificate you will want to show to your insurance broker when you apply for insurance.

If you will be working in San Diego county, the following is required to obtain your Body Art Permit. You will need to have one before working on your model.

NEW PRACTITIONER CHECKLIST (you will need to submit):

After you’ve taken our ‘Microblading’ course, you may take our 1-day Microshading course. In that class, you will learn how to properly shade a client’s brows (also known as powder and ombre). We use a machine method when shading. We do not teach manual shading.

Ombre is a shading technique that only uses a permanent makeup machine. No Microblading (aka hair like strokes) is done. We do no train on strictly ombre brows.

Powder is just another term for ‘shading’. You will learn shading/powder brows in our Microshading course.

For Permanent Makeup Trainings, we have a Beginner Microblading Course (both in person and online). We also offer Microshading and Tattoo Removal. Although not PMU, we have a Plasma Pen Fibroblast course. We do not currently offer Lip Blush or Eyeliner training.

We use Instagram for social media. Check us out at @covetbeautystudio_academy and @covetbeautystudio

During training, we take photos and videos of you in which we will tag you in. These will help you to build your social media presence right away!

We post to our stories throughout training days so if you want to follow along on what we are doing, check us out on the dates listed on our website and you can see what a typical day is like.

‘Micropigmentation’ is just another term for Permanent Makeup. However, you will typically see this word used when referring to implanting pigment into one’s scalp.

In class, we will cover who is and is not a good candidate for Microblading. A lot will depend on the client’s skin type, age, hair texture, and lifestyle.

When referencing ‘Microblading’, one can get lost in all of the terms used to mean the same thing. For example, you may come across feathering, 3D, 4D, 6D eyebrows, etching, soft tap, etc. However, there is only one ‘technique’ when referring to ‘Microblading’ and that is when an artist uses a handheld tool to create hair like strokes in one’s eyebrows.

Cassandra and Taylor were PMU artists for years prior to training others on how to Microblade. They still take clients almost daily as they love to keep up with their craft. They have created multiple training programs for beginners and advanced artists and taught hundreds of students in their PMU courses.
